about
I had a very close father-son relationship. My dad was my hero. He taught me how to laugh and that it was okay to cry. He died at age 69 from multiple illnesses, and I had the honor of being by his side for his last days.
lyrics
I want to sit here for a little while,
I want to hold your hand and pretend to smile,
I know...
Sometime soon will be your time to go.
And understanding that it has to be,
Doesn't change the way that it's killing me,
Inside...
When your gone a part of me will die.
And there's nothing left to do, but sit here with you
And just wait.
I'm by your side in the longest of goodbyes
We've ever made.
For you I'll try and hold back these tears.
And I can see this moment will be haunting me for years.
Even so:
I'm waiting by your side until you go.
All the love that you had given me,
Is flooding my head with the memories
We share...
And how does life go on without you there?
We had a lot of time and I wanted more,
We can't go back to the way before
and I feel...
Like I'm in a dream but this is real.
And there's nothing left to do, but sit here with you
and just wait.
I'm by your side in the longest of goodbyes
we've ever made.
This had been the oldest of my fears.
And now it's time to face the harsh reality that nears
And even so...
I'm waiting by your side until you go.
Any minute now you'll be on your way,
There's one last thing I'll say before your gone:
With my whole entire being,
With the turn of every season,
Every day that you are gone,
and in the hear of every song,
I promise as your only son:
I will always be the one
To make sure that a part of you lives on.
